King Richard lll Scarborough
Taken 13/9/2013 in Scarborough, UK
At first glance you would be forgiven for thinking this should be on the Pub and Shop Signs website but this Inn, King Richard lll, is more historical than that.
KRlll only reigned from 1483 to 1485 when he was killed at Bosworth Field. In 1484 he gathered a fleet at Scarborough in readiness for the expected invasion by Henry Tudor.
KRlll was the last king to stay in Scarborough castle and, it is said, he also stayed in this inn.
It is certainly possible as he came to Scarborough several times and enjoyed its "facilities"...
The building does have a blue plaque but it is so placed that most passers-by would never see it.
